Notes & Combos

After months of hard work and the release of my new scientific paper, I needed a break. So I came back and wanted to test some new ideas with ComboTrix.

I started the real climb on Tuesday (17/3) with a trap-focused 40-card list, but I wasn’t very satisfied. It just felt like a typical DC Cup experience.

On Wednesday (18/3) I brought back a ComboTrix list and switched the previous SHS engine for a new Gem-Knight engine. Initially I included "Moon of the Closed Heaven" + "A Bao A Qu, the Lightless Shadow", but Extra Deck space is too tight to justify cutting Almiraj just for a win-more going-first plan. The card that surprised me the most was "Gorgon of Zilofthonia". It’s incredibly easy to make and devastating against tower-style boss monsters and opponents who don’t read cards.

On Friday i crushed though R18>R19>R20 in one single run without losing a game, finishing with an overwhelming winstreak of 8 games. So much fun!

Some general notes

Master Duel can be very frustrating and yes, cards like Droll, Maxx C, Fuwalos, Purulia and those annoying turn 0 cards should be hit. There is no real "safe-plan B" anymore with Bagooska gone if you get seriously interrupted during your turn.

However you can still catch a lot of players off guard by snowballing out of control. Cards like Brilliant Fusion can give you a standard full combo plus Naturia Beast and even an additional Normal Summon on top. "Vingolf's Blessing" can generate a free search for a specific Traptrix monster via Nepyrim/Quarz/Pingu without even consumming your NS. You can also easily use its second effect with "Lily Borea" to generate a free monster for further plays, while also setting up "Hyperyton" with a Spell negate. **"Nepyrim" ** + a trap is also close to full combo. Glow-up-Bulb is hands down one of the best targets for Brilliant Fusion. I always wanted to include this card but there was hardly no way because of missing card effects like follish burial. This card feels perfect for Traptrix. My overall win rate ended up at approximately 62%, despite having a terrible coin toss ratio of 39% — what an awesome experience ...
