Notes & Combos

Same deck as I had in ranked this month.

Originally, I did attempt to run a Shifter/Macro variant. From DLV.10-18 [was like 17-3 for wins], it was a cakewalk for the most part, however, after I got knocked back down to 17, I wasn't able to climb back up.

The deck felt alright, however, whenever I opened Shifter, it was against something like Exosister, where it does nothing and Maxx C never really did much as it either never went through or my opponent just stopped their turn and I maybe had like Macro and some other cards I couldn't do much with at the time.

Honestly, Macro felt rough since it's not something that protects Sera and a good chunk of decks don't care about it. I also feel like it's even worth than opening Anti-Spell going second, since your opponent should be mostly setup. Anti-Spell at least stops draw spells and stuff for a turn still.

Overall though, the event felt tougher than Ranked for some reason. [maybe since I just wanted it to be finished, while ranked has a month] It probably didn't help that I lost more flips than winning them and things like Spright/Twin can be a bit hard going first, never mind constantly facing them going second after they are setup. I also saw a TON of Exosister compared to my ranked climb, alongside an increased amount of Floo. The former can be alright if you go first, however, if you can't stop them, it's hard to play around their free banishes given our speed. Floo is just Floo. Hope you can stop what they do or else they can speedroll into too much advantage.

Honestly, I was hoping to get the Macro version up here, but I never saw pile decks when I had it and as mentioned, Shifter was never in my opener except for games against other decks that don't care about it. I also kept drawing things like Maxx C / Ash as my 6th cards going second.. so just another dead draw basically. [well, Maxx C more than Ash] Maybe it'd be better if we had 1 card starters, so we didn't need a ton of our hand, however, we really don't for the most part, unless if other engines in the deck can provide that like Circular.

While it's not the worst, my last session before rank-up, my record was

  • Won flip: 8

  • Lost flip: 11

  • Won game: 12

  • Lost game: 7

So it's not like I lost every game going second, but yeah, it's tough to always win versus what is meta right now.
