In the Tear meta, when you aren't running Tear, it's just painful.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of this deck. I did try using eXceed/Brigandine at first, however, going blind Dweller while going first with the power we have, it just feels bad. Even more so when slightly less than 50% of my games weren't against Tear. It also didn't help that the millers easily shutdown Brigandine, the extender I'd rather run. I did try going into Raff to have access to things like Gravedigger's, however, that never felt like enough or you were just chainblocked.

If I wasn't running Shifter, eXceed wouldn't be as bad, since I wouldn't have as many bricks.. but given how the meta is.. sometimes, if you don't open Shifter, you just get overwhelmed. [I'm not really a fan of Shifter overall. I did try a Macro/Shifter deck in the DC cup and it felt bad. The only reason it's ok in this one is due to how much you expect to see Tear]

As for the ratios:

  • I would like to run a 3rd Fissure, however, I ended up cutting it for a 3rd Soul Drain, as I ran into Floo more than I'd like. While it doesn't always do much against them if you go second and they setup.. it's at least not a totally dead card potentially unlike.. if you open double Shifter or any other anti-Tear techs like D Barrier/Fissure.
  • Torrential isn't great against Tear, however, as long as you have a floodgate to back it up, it's still decent and it's still good against other decks you might run up against like Exosister and Floo to some extent.
  • Compulsory is a good Prison OTK tech still if you open something and clear the Tear player's board.
  • Phoenix is in the ED as a placeholder. I also never went into Unicorn/Accesscode Talker. It always felt hard to keep monsters on the field to do too much.
  • Since I went to running 2 Floodgate over 2 Gravedigger's, I've preferred that more.. however, Gravedigger's can at least maybe hurt Floo and Tear [while making it easier to OTK with something like Prison]

Overall, I feel like a lot of this meta with the deck I have is just luck. Sometimes you open anti-Tear against Floo and you just lose thanks to that. [never mind that Floo was never the best matchup, even more so if they go first] Other times, you open no anti-Tear while going against Tear. It's not always over if you have things like Imperm/Ash depending on how weak of a start they have, however, it does make it much harder.
