Introduction

Konami have officially announced details on the WCS 2023 Ruleset, which will take place on August 5th and 6th in Tokyo, Japan! The Top 8 Duelists from the World Championship Qualifiers - Top 100 Decks have assembled their teams of 3 to take part in a Team Battle event. Take a look at the rule-set below, and let us know your thoughts on the format in the comments.

The finals consists of the 1st Stage and Final Tournament. The 1st Stage is a Round Robin Tournament with teams split into 2 groups. Two teams from each group will qualify for the Final Tournament!

A match between two teams is called a "Round", which consists of each player playing one Duel against everyone on the opposing team. Therefore, each round will consist of three sets of Simultaneous Duels, for 9 Duels Maximum.

The winner of a Round is the team that won the most Duels. However, if a team has won 5 or more Duels by the end of the second set, and has therefore already won the round, the third set will not be played, and all Duels in the third set will count as a Victory for the round-winning team.

If the number of Duels won is tied, the round-winning team will be decided by a Duel between Team Representatives.

During rounds, players can communicate with the teammates, and watch their teams Duels if theirs has concluded - but cannot watch or listen to other teams' Duels or communications.

Decks

All decks must follow the Forbidden & Limited List effective as of July 14th and only include cards obtainable on that date. Therefore, the Upcoming Selection Pack: Dreaded Conspiracy will be the last cards useable for WCS 2023.

  • Each player can use Up to 2 Decks and can choose which of those to play for each Duel. (Six Decks per Team total).
  • There can be at most, 3 Copies of each card across all of each team's Decks. If a card is Limited or Semi-Limited, there can only be 1 or 2 copies maximum
  • Each team can pick up to 3 Shared Cards. These cards can be included in each deck, instead of across all 6 decks. If a card is Limited or Semi-Limited, then only 1 or 2 copies can be added to each Deck.

For example:

  • If you put 3 copies of Loading... in 1 of your Decks, you cannot include it in any others. You could also add 1 copy to 3 different Decks.
  • If you put 1 copy of Loading... in 1 of your Decks, you can only add 1 more copy across other Decks.
  • If you selected Loading... as one of your 3 Shared Cards, you can include up to 3 copies in each Deck.
