Introduction

Do you like big guys in shining armor? Do you like big swords? Do you like hitting your opponents with more than 10k ATK points?

If the answer is yes, then you will like the Heroic deck!

Heroic is a ZEXAL anime archetype that became playable with the last support released.

The main game plan of the deck is to hit your opponent, very hard. Various cards in the archetype have effects that boost the ATK stat of monsters you control, giving you very easy OTK potential.

Additional effects are unlocked once you reach 500 Life Points, making every duel a near death experience.

  • Heroic Champions
  • Spells and Traps

Heroic Challengers are the main deck monsters of the archetype.

Heroic Challenger - Thousand Blades

The main starter of the archetype, can discard an "Heroic" card to special summon an "Heroic" monster from the deck. Its effect is not hard once per turn, so if you summon another one you can use it again.

Using this effect locks you into "Heroic" monsters for the rest of the turn.

When in the graveyard, if you take damage, it can special summon itself.

Heroic Challenger - Morning Star
Heroic Challenger - Morning Star

Easily one of the best summon in the deck, on summon can search any "Heroic" Spell/Trap card.

If you control at least 2 Warrior monsters you can special summon it from your hand, making it a perfect extender for our plays.

If you have 500 LP or less you can also special summon it from the graveyard, with its effects negated.

Heroic Challenger - Knuckle Sword
Heroic Challenger - Knuckle Sword

Another extender, as well as the monster that gives us access to our Rank 1 XYZ.

Can be special summoned from the hand if you have an "Heroic" monster on the field, and on summon can modulate the level of 1 Warrior monster you control.

This effect locks you into attacking with only XYZ monsters for the rest of the turn, keep that in mind.

Heroic Challenger - Assault Halberd
Heroic Challenger - Assault Halberd

Being older than the other searcher, its search effect isn't as useful, although it comes up sometimes.

If you control no monsters and your opponent controls at least 1, you can special summon it from the hand.

An important effect to keep in mind is its ability to inflict piercing damage, in case your opponent doesn't control any attack position monster and you need to push for lethal.

Heroic Challenger - Extra Sword
Heroic Challenger - Extra Sword

Its only effect is to give the XYZ monster it's overlayed into a 1000 ATK boost.

That's it.

Heroic Challenger - Clasp Sword
Heroic Challenger - Clasp Sword

For the price of running a garnet, it gives you an extra search when summoned by the effect of Loading... .

Other monsters
Heroic Challenger - Double Lance
Heroic Challenger - Spartan
Heroic Challenger - Night Watchman
Heroic Challenger - Swordshield
Heroic Challenger - Ambush Soldier
Heroic Challenger - War Hammer

Old cards that are not good in modern Heroic.

Heroic Champions are the archetype's XYZ monsters.

Heroic Champion - Claivesolish
Heroic Champion - Claivesolish

Main card of the deck, it's the boss monster that gives you the OTK potential and unlocks your card's extra effects.

By activating his effect you go to 500 Life Points, making the other Heroic cards' effects live, but also it doubles the ATK points of 1 monster you control at the start of your Battle Phase.

Combining this effect plus other cards like Loading... and Loading... you can get Claivesolish to more than 10k ATK points, making it a deadly OTK tool.

Its second effect locks your opponent from attacking other monsters, and when an attack is declared you can make Claivesolish gain the ATK of 1 monster your opponents control.

Heroic Champion - Excalibur
Heroic Champion - Excalibur

Another big beater, its effect is simple, by detaching 2 XYZ materials the ATK becomes 4000.

This combined with the other cards' boosting effects can bring it to ridiculous amounts of ATK points.

Heroic Champion - Jarngreipr
Heroic Champion - Jarngreipr

The only Rank 1 of the archetype, its main role is supporting you into extending your board, by reviving Warrior monster from your graveyard while gaining their ATK, and protecting other warriors from destruction.

It also has another effect that heals your life points when your monsters battle, allowing you to use Loading... 's effect again the next turn (if there's one).

Heroic Champion - Gandiva
Heroic Champion - Gandiva

Gandiva can destroy 1 monster that is special summoned on your opponent's field. Pretty simple.

Heroic Champion - Kusanagi
Heroic Champion - Kusanagi

Needing 3 materials to summon, this card is not the best option for your extra deck, even though having a Trap card negates can result pretty useful.

Number 86: Heroic Champion - Rhongomyniad
Number 86: Heroic Champion - Rhongomyniad

We do not talk about it.

Heroic Envoy
Heroic Envoy

ROTA for Heroics, can search any Heroic monster.

While being at 500 LP or less, you can banish it from the graveyard to add 1 "Heroic" card from the graveyard to the hand.

Nothing much to say, easy 3x in the deck.

Heroic Call
Heroic Call

Huge recorvery card, can also work as extender if you need an extra monster. It only negates the effects of non Heroic monsters.

While being at 500 LP or less, you can boost the ATK of 1 monster you control by banishing this card from the graveyard. This effect comes up pretty often to secure an OTK if something gets negated.

Heroic Chance
Heroic Chance

Main target to add with Loading... when going for the OTK.

The monster you boost can't attack directly this turn, so make sure you use this only when the opponent has a monster to attack.

Run 2 if you are playing Loading... .

The Trap cards
Heroic Advance
Heroic Retribution Sword
Heroic Gift

Bad cards, don't run them.

Any level 4 Warrior monster that can extend your field is very welcome, since the Heroic main deck monsters aren't that many.

Ready Fusion package

Ready Fusion
Karbonala Warrior

Being a blind second deck, it's mandatory to run board breakers such as Kaijus (that also give an ATK position monster to your opponent to attack with Claivesolish), Loading... , Loading... , and so on.

Handtraps with high impact are also very good.

Isolde

Loading... is a 1-card combo into Loading... . Isolde on summon adds a "Heroic" monster to your hand, which will be discarded by Loading... ( summoned by Isolde from the deck ).

This engine is very bricky and needs a lot of deck space, it's not very recommended.

Utopia Double

Small Utopia package that gets you to Loading... (or any "Number" monster) as well as Loading... with 6k ATK with only 2 level 4 monsters. Otherwise you can also get Loading... to use with Loading... for extra damage.

We can use any generic Rank 4 that we like, or any generic Link monster.

Few examples:

Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir
Number 60: Dugares the Timeless
Abyss Dweller
Evilswarm Exciton Knight
Number 101: Silent Honor ARK
Number 39: Utopia
Number S39: Utopia Prime
Blade Armor Ninja
Number F0: Utopic Future
Number F0: Utopic Draco Future
Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder
Lyrilusc - Ensemblue Robin
Knightmare Phoenix
Knightmare Unicorn

I recommend running at least 1 Loading... as turn 1 option in case you face another going second deck, and 1 Loading... since it also has an effect that doubles a monster's ATK. The Utopia and Utopia Prime slots are also very good since if you get to 500LP you can freely use Utopia Prime's effect to clear the board.

Of course the tech slots will change for every format, you can take out whatever you don't want to play and add in other techs.

There aren't any long combos for the deck to follow, just use whatever you have in hand to clear the board, summon your boss monster, boost its ATK and swing.

An example of an OTK when uninterrupted and if your opponenet controls an ATK position monster:

  • Find a way to get Loading... on the field
  • Thousand Blades discards 1 "Heroic" card to special summon Loading... from the deck
  • Morning Star on summon searches Loading...
  • XYZ summon Loading...
  • Activate its effect
  • Use Heroic Chance, targetting Claivesolish
  • Enter Battle Phase

You now have Claivesolish with his ATK doubled 2 times, reaching 10k. The stats of the opponenet's monster does not matter since Claivesolish can boost its ATK when in battle, making it always 10k more than your opponent's.

Of course there are many more ways to get a monster to high ATK, this is just a simple scenario.

Heroics can be used in other Warrior decks as a small package to make a rank 4 or a rank 1, or providing extenders to use for other plays.

Loading... on summon can search Loading... , that will get you Loading... in hand, ready to be special summoned. You also run Loading... in case you don't need to search for Envoy, since it can special summon any Warrior monster from the hand or graveyard.

Heroic Challenger - Morning Star
Heroic Challenger - Knuckle Sword
Heroic Envoy
Heroic Call
Heroic Champion - Claivesolish
Heroic Champion - Jarngreipr

Conclusion

Even though the deck isn't particularly good, it's a pretty fun strategy if you like big beatsticks and XYS summons.

Thank you for reading, and have fun playing ^_^
