Update Initialized: Into the VRAINS! - Recoded Alive

Cyberse, a portmanteau of "cyber" and "universe" - deeply connected to digital technology, cyberspace, internet slang and science fiction. Not only did this type introduce us to the VRAINS era and its Link mechanic with this guides archetype(s) and first monster(s) Loading... and Loading... , they also ended it with one of the strongest Link monsters currently in the game: Loading... , leaving an everlasting impact. Now, the data storm came back to bestow Firewall Dragon with its own new archetype, making its co-linked bond to the virtual warriors even stronger and giving us the 2nd ever Link-6 Link monster: Loading... , the complete opposite of the first Link-6 Link monster you might already know...

As the main archetype used by the anime protagonist of this era, there are many years of support behind this deck with even more to come, but what exactly is the idea?

1. The Strategies

Code Talkers and Firewalls are the definition of Cyberse and the Link mechanic: rapid Link climbing and co-linking are the core strategy of these archetypes. By pointing to other monsters, you receive offensive and defensive power-ups to overpower your opponent or to put a difficult-to-overcome wall in their way.

Code Talkers are supported with their own set of Main Deck monsters, which all have the unique effect of being able to use themselves from your hand as Link material for Link Summons.

Firewalls make use of other Extra Deck types to the same extend, making your Ace monsters more powerful the more Summon Mechanics you use. Here, Ritual, Fusion, Synchro and Xyz are supported and in return help you out.

In addition, the "Cynet" archetype acts as both decks supported Spell/Trap support - having a large variety of effects, allowing you several Normal Summons per turn, negate an opponent's entire card name, or even to search any Cyberse monsters from your deck multiple times in one turn and many more! Thanks to this, following VRAINS message of creating new bonds and connecting with others are the decks priority.

You have a variety of playstyles supported, be it slow and Spell/Trap focused, or with many different other Cyberse archetypes combined to build unbreakable boards or to support those other archetypes in general.

Here are some example playstyles:

  • Code Talker Mathmech - "Cyberse Link"; using Code Talkers, Firewalls, Mathmechs, and other Cyberse engines to play like a Cyberse version of other known mash-up decks like "Dragon Link" (Rokkets) or "Plant Link" (Sunavalon Rikka), building huge unbreakable endboards.
  • Extra Link; abusing Extra Linking with Loading... and Loading... to virtually lock your opponent out of the game.
  • Focus on Firewalls; Summon Ritual, Fusion, Synchro and/or Xyz monsters to buff up Loading... and Loading... .
  • Code Talker Control; focusing on many Traps, slowing down the game and gaining card advantage with Loading... .
  • Going Second OTK; quickly finishing the Duel in 1 turn with Loading... and similar threats.
  • Cyberse Clock Dragon FTK; abusing Loading... and Loading... to send your entire Deck to the GY, using it to Summon Loading... to tribute Cyberse Clock Dragon with at least 16000 ATK to deal 8000 Effect Damage to your opponent or do a very funny move and gather all 5 pieces of Loading... .

Now, focusing on all of these playstyles would completely go beyond the scope of this guide in terms of length and keeping track, so for now let's focus on Code Talker and Firewalls arguably most powerful version first, seeing the most success currently in both the TCG and OCG - Code Talker Mathmech.

"Code Talker Mathmech", sometimes also called "Firewall Link" or "Cyberse Link" at first sounds much like your normal "Mathmech" deck strategy, but it goes even further by making the most out of your Links. By focusing on using the established synergies with other Cyberse archetypes you build big boards with many disruptions to overpower your opponent. Invite them to break your board, but they won't be able to marsh through this game of Minesweeper unscarred without facing the biggest Link monster in the game: Loading... .
