1. Overview

Honk! Honk! Welcome to the circus!! Clown Crew is a brand new archetype which involves summoning your performers to the stage and tributing them off for the one and only Loading... !

Clown crew has a monster for each card type. The extra deck monsters are usually cheated out by the spells/traps, such as Loading... and Loading... .

When tributed, each of them can trigger to activate one of two effects:

  • All Clown Crew monsters share the effect to shuffle all monsters that share their monster type from the field and graveyards back into the deck or extra deck, including themselves.
  • Each of them have a second effect that is unique to them.

The ability to completely shuffle back all monsters of a given monster type is extremely powerful, and can completely board wipe your opponent, on top of that, because you're often tributing more than 1 card, you can easily chain block these effects, making it very tough for your opponent to interact with your interrupts!

Play your cards right and you can even draw up to 8 cards in a single turn with the Clowns alone...

Strength and Weaknesses banner

2. Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

  1. The draw power lets you draw into so much non engine, allowing you to high roll your opponent with hand traps.
  2. Simple combos that are easy to learn.
  3. Each Clown Crew monster has a Tribute effect that triggers upon being tributed. This can be for a tribute summon, a ritual summon or tributing for cost to activate an effect of another card, leading to some synergy with other archetypes!
  4. Clown Crew chain blocks their effects very well, so if there is an effect you want to resolve, you can almost guarantee it will by chain blocking it.

Weaknesses

  1. Clown Crew Rehearsal and Clown Crew Malabarisme are nasty choke points so watch out for Ash Blossom on these cards!
  2. Clown Crew Malabarisme and Clown Crew Matinee Operatics, when used to summon, lock you out of using the effects of monsters summoned from the Deck and Extra Deck, limiting your options on what you can use.
  3. It is generally weak to floodgates that prevent cards from being added from the deck to hand like Loading... .
  4. Clown Crew needs to pre-emptivly use its interaction to make its interruptions most effective, so knowledge of other decks and anticipating their plays is common.

Our Main Clown

Clown Crew Biancaviso

Ladies and gentlemen!!"

It's the one! The only! Biancaviso! He is the main clown you want to try and tribute summon. Although he himself does not have any effects upon being tributed, he does have two very useful effects when he is tribute summoned:

  • Draw cards equal to the number of monsters Tributed for its Tribute Summon.
  • Negate the effects of face-up cards your opponent controls, equal to the number of monsters Tributed for its Tribute Summon.

You can only use one of these two effects when he is tribute summoned, but you can use the other effect if you tribute summon a 2nd Biancaviso, so choose wisely which effect is best for the situation!

During your opponent's main phase, you can tribute summon 1 monster. This is a soft once per turn, meaning you can keep using this effect with each new Biancaviso summoned onto the field.
