Overview:

Chain burn is a deck based around creating chains to rack up effect damage quickly.

Chain burn is a fairly simple deck, having only a few simple combos and requiring little meta or game knowledge to pilot.

The deck primarily runs spells for draw power, and traps to threaten your opponent and defend yourself.

Chain burn has never been a meta deck, but has gone so far as to win the 2017 World Championship in the Dragon Duel division (under 12 years old).

Basics:

First and foremost I recommend anyone playing Chain Burn to have a calculator handy to keep track of your damage output.

None of the individual calculations are particularly difficult, but calculating 6 burn cards on a changing field can become difficult.

Below we have some basic calculations and theory regarding card value and damage numbers for Chain Burn.

Given that this is a blind second deck, all calculations are assuming a 6 card starting hand.

Damage Per Card

With 6 cards in hand, you want to hit at least 1600 damage per card, 2000 if possible and anything over that is amazing.

  • With 1600 dmg per card you need 5 cards to reach lethal.
  • With 2000 dmg per card you need 4 cards to reach lethal.

This means that on average you can afford up to 2 cards being negated or wasted to still win by T3.
